TSP help win Planning Approval for Cheltenham Racecourse £45m development

The Stilwell Partnership has provided specialist Highway Engineering services to The Jockey Club over a number of years, assisting development and improvement at a number of racecourses around the UK.

Our latest appointment was to support the Planning Application for a major new stand at Cheltenham’s world class Racecourse.  At a projected £45 million, the development will be The Jockey Club’s largest single investment in facilities at the racecourse.

This was brought to a successful conclusion when Cheltenham Borough Council awarded Planning Consent for the development in July 2013.

The proposed development will create a state-of-the-art new grandstand alongside the existing main grandstand, replacing the circa 1920s ‘A&R’ block.

It will include new annual members’ facilities, general public viewing areas, private boxes and the Royal Box. The project will include improvements for owners and trainers, and include elevated walkways to ease mobility and multi-tiered viewing of the parade ring.

The following Highways consultancy services contributed towards the success of this Planning Application:

  • Transportation and Traffic advice,
  • A Transportation Assessment,
  • Production of the Travel Plan
  • Design of off-site highway and pedestrian improvements
  • Liaison with Gloucestershire County Highways Department
  • Contribution towards, and participation in, the Public Consultation
