6 01 2016

CIHTThe prestigious Pont Briwet Bridge in Meirionnydd, Snowdonia in North Wales has been awarded the Transportation Project of the Year.

This was presented by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation of Wales at their annual dinner.

The bridge took over two years to construct and recently opened earlier this year. The new bridge provides a vital road and rail link to the community.

The new bridge, which includes a dedicated cycle track linked to the National Cycle Network, has cost £20 million with funding from the European Regional Development Fund, Network Rail, the Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council.

The Stilwell Partnership was a member of the design team working for bridge design engineer Hewsons.

We provided all highways and drainage civil engineering design of the approach roads to the bridge including adjacent junction improvements. The civil engineering design included production of Construction Drawings and Specification for Highway Works. The project also presented significant challenges of coordination and therefore utilised Building Information Management (BIM) procedures to ensure an efficient design and construction process.
